YOGA

Shambhala Farm is a yoga studio known for its upbeat, eclectic vibe. My classes blend yoga with curated music playlists, giving a fresh spin to traditional practice. After years of teaching larger groups, I dialed it back, creating a minimalist studio just a few minutes from Woodstock Village. Our small classes bring big energy, offering a unique and unforgettable yoga experience.

Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga yoga is a traditional practice developed by Sri Tirumalai Krishnamacharya in the early 20th century. It is rooted in the "eight limbs" philosophy from Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. This approach follows a structured series of postures linked with breath, creating a flowing sequence that fosters balance, flexibility, and focus. Ashtanga emphasizes the harmonious connection between breath and movement, helping practitioners cultivate a calm, meditative state as they progress.

Since its introduction to the West, Ashtanga has grown in popularity, with modifications that make it accessible to people of all backgrounds and abilities. Its blend of movement, breath, and introspection appeals to those seeking a mindful practice grounded in ancient wisdom. Today, Ashtanga invites practitioners to experience a path toward self-awareness, combining traditional teachings with modern wellness principles.

Unfold - Yin Yoga

Yin yoga is a slow, meditative practice focusing on long-held stretches targeting the body’s deeper connective tissues. Its roots lie in ancient Chinese Taoist practices and Traditional Chinese Medicine, which aim to balance energy flow through the body’s meridians. Introduced to the West by martial artist Paulie Zink, Yin evolved through teachers like Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers, who combined TCM principles with yoga postures, creating the Yin yoga we know today.

Over time, Yin yoga became known for its ability to balance fast-paced lifestyles with stillness and mindfulness. Encouraging long-held, floor-based poses fosters relaxation and patience, helping practitioners release tension and quiet the mind. Now widely practiced, Yin yoga offers a gentle yet profound way to restore body and spirit.

Rest - Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga is a gentle practice focused on deep relaxation. Developed in the mid-20th century by B.K.S. Iyengar, it uses props like bolsters, blankets, and blocks to support the body in restful poses, allowing practitioners to release tension and calm the nervous system. This supportive approach makes it accessible to all, providing physical and mental ease without strain.

Restorative yoga is a wonderful stress management method. Teachers like Judith Hanson Lasater have refined the practice, and today, it’s widely taught in studios, wellness centers, and even medical settings. Its focus on stillness and relaxation meets a modern need for balance, offering a calming antidote to fast-paced lifestyles.
